A name well suited for this species. The Banded Kingfisher shy away from me for many year. Today I manage to get a shot of this lonely male. The bird was not calling perching quietly above me providing me opportunity for photography though angle are rather sharp. If you still wander why the name "banded" was used? have a look on this picture showing its back.
