Understanding Raptor - Introduction to Rufous-Bellied Eagle (Part 1)
Rufous-Bellied Eagle is perhaps one of the most brightly coloured raptor in Malaysia. The magnificent raptor is probably one of the few which is most wanted to be photograph. This is no different to my personal feeling. To began with, there is at least 4 age class in this raptor. This raptor have probably make into many people list but is one of the raptor which is full of mystery. Nest is largely unknown in the world and in Malaysia nest was never been found. To began with our prediction is probably this species also have 4 age class but this info we will never be very clear for sure as we never have enough photo to really confirmed it. In term of subspecies 2 identified and both were found here in Peninsula Malaysia. The nominate and the formasus race.
Singhting of this species increase from December to March in Malaysia. While many individual was observed in west coast of Peninsula Malaysia, their population were also more concentrated in east coast. Some site have prove to be more sighting of this species. Their subspecies variation will be discuss in the next posting.
