NCRRU - Peregrine Falcon (Falco peregrinus enerstii)

Peregrine falcon is the most common larger falcon in Malaysia. This species is commonly seen in many location. In this species itself 4 subspecies is recognize to occur here in the Peninsula Malaysia. The resident enerstii, another 3 migrant calidus, japonicus and peregrinator. Out of this three the peregrinator is the rarest and I have yet to see one. Resident enerstii can occur from lowland, housing area all the way to mountain area. Some location this bird have been recorded as high as 6000feet asl. This subspecies can be easily recognize by the hood which is almost look like helmet. Underpart fine barring began on lower breast all the way downwards on rufous based body. Other part including throat are usually rufous to pale pinkish.

Upperpart are darker compare to the other two subspecies which is the calidus and japonicus where resident appear almost black. Feet, eyeing and cere are all yellow with greyish to blackish black bill tip.

enerstii subspecies is know to breed here in many location including perak, penang and also perlis. Usually 2  young or more. Other location, juvenile were seen in many location suggest probably breeding in many other location. So guys when on cliff look out for peregrine falcon and maybe you might see a nest.
