Note from field : Sunda Pygmy woodpecker excavating nest
Some interesting fact I got from this species recently that there is 2 season in the country where this species breed. From the early of the year and also November and December. This one in early November are still excavating.
During reference check it was documented that both male and female excavate the nest. Not so particularly today for this individual. Only one was observed around the area.
Observation in the area also show that this species territory are not huge although they may wander beyond normal range in search for food however nest is always around the same area.
Presumably the same individual, was observed exacting in the same area in march. I’m curious the dependency period of this species and if there is a possibility that the nest again in less than a year. This will be a nice one to know.
It will also be interesting to observed behaviour where this species overlap with the grey capped woodpecker
