Hill Blue Flycatcher
In Well's vol 2 this species breeding was noted as no record. Hey what do you know. We do have a few nest. More nest considering those we have seen in previous year. To add to this gap is that nesting usually began in march. I never see one in february. Also indicate that the young as mention in Wells which is juvy observed in April and May. To date back bird are more territorial in february indicating the breeding can began in february lasted to march and fledging can be observed in May. Not knowing the rarity of the nest record we did not noted well on the nest for the pass few nest. However one was noted to be rather similar in material with verditer flycatcher. In all, nest are placed some where between 1.5m to about 3 m above ground. Most of the nest was observed in slope area, bank and also steep forested area. Male and female usually observed near nest though during nesting female remain quiter compared to male. Only male call and defend the territory while female may stay nearby. In one incident a male was observed chasing away another flycatcher. Female does most of the hard work during nesting while male provide food every now and then very typical of flycatcher. In most cases male perch high up and call when was provoke with play back. Picture below of a male of another possible nesting pair around the area.
