S.B.S heron and otter heron relationship observation @ visit 16 August 2020
Decided to head to this place for my regular nasi lemak both my wife and myself decided to drop by some area for bird. A unique location and meet up with some old friend which I have not seen for years. hey hey everyone is doing well.
Anyway with opportunity we drop by some wader watching spot. Some interesting species such as this Ruddy Turnstone.
Other wader observed such as Eurasian Curlew, Whinbrel, Lesser Sand Plover, Greater Sand Plover, Curlew Sandpiper, Common Redshank, Red Necked Stint, Common Sandpiper and many other unidentified wader was observed. Some other interesting observation were how the heron particularly Black Crowned Night Heron using the advantage of Smooth Otter in their hunting.
What was observed was the BCNH was moving up and down the bank following the otter, While the otter hunt near the bank the heron follow. We notice that each time the otter move nearer to the bank the fish were chased around the area and the BCNH take advantage of the fish which is trying to escape the otter and hunt for it. Very successful indeed such as this picture below. Im not sure if this observation was observed in any other part in the country but this was interesting for me at least.
Other photo observed as in below.
