NCRRU - Lesser Fish Eagle (Nikon P90 eye)

This was taken almost 4 year ago too when I got my toy. The Lesser Fish-Eagle can be said to be only forest dwelling fish eagle know to this country or perhaps the world. A species which is commonly seen in forest stream such as in Merapoh, Kuala Tahan, Kenyir, Temmenggor, Pedu and also Ulu Muda. This species is also being the smallest among the three sea and fish eagle in the country have some modification making the species to look more like a normal eagle compare to fish eagle. However having plumage almost similar to the Grey-headed Fish-Eagle, it thus make their identification a little challenging at time. Juvenile post a great identification challenge but once learn their difference you wander why you even confuse them.

This individual in photo was taken in Kuala Lumpur district itself. Making my way to the location for the first time my aim was very clear to see this species. It did not take us long before finding one individual on a tree. Nevertheless it has already been year where sighting such as this one in KL area remain rare. What we can be sure off is that active nest have been observed in a few location which would be a great assets to their survival. Hopefully those in this location continue to nest and produce success eaglet every year.
